Portable Apps Weekly Roundup

Updates for 19th March to 24th March

The VLC Player 2.0.1 should be applied, as it fixes some security issues.

If you haven't heard of portable apps before, a large collection of applications (both freeware and open-source) are provided in a format suitable to be put onto a memory stick. I have also used them for network deployment, for example running VLC Portable from a network folder.

Portable Apps Weekly Roundup

Updates for 3rd March to 9th March

CrystalDiskInfo came in very handy for quickly identifying the serial number of a drive, I didn't have any other tools installed and didn't want to write a script so a quick download of the portable app and it can be an overview of all the SMART information from all connected drives.

[Android Apps] Renamed applications

Due to potential suspensions from the Android Market, I have renamed all my motor racing related schedule apps to say 'Unofficial' in case anyone is somehow confused. NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY ENDORSED!

I have also changed all the market images to have no trace of the logos used by each racing series.

[Android App] Nascar Schedule 2012

Nascar Schedule 2012 Suspended from Android Market

I have received an email from Google Android Market relating to my 'Nascar Schedule 2012' application. Apparently it violates the Developer Content Policy, at this stage I am not exactly sure why as it is just a simple application that makes the dates of all the races available. Maybe the use of the logos on the market image wasn't liked or maybe using the word Nascar in the title is a problem.

Looking through the http://www.android.com/us/developer-content-policy.html I would assume that Nascar or someone has object to the title of the app. Maybe I need to call it 'Unofficial Nascar Schedule 2012'. Although I would expect anyone with an ounce of common sense to realise it isn't an official Nascar app.

To make matters even more confusing, a simple app like mine gets suspended but an app called 'NASCAR' https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nascar.relativeapps is allowed to stand.
